UK official says N Stream-2 not to work if Russia invades Ukraine
MOSCOW, Feb 10 (PRIME) -- Severe sanctions, including against the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, may be introduced against Moscow if Russia invades Ukraine, U.K. Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said during her visit to Moscow on Thursday.
According to the official, in case of the said conflict, the U.K. and their allies would “put in place severe sanctions” against Russia, affecting both individuals and institutions. The U.S. has made it clear that in this case the Nord Stream-2 project will not be implemented, Truss said.
As Truss said, she came to Russia to try and find an alternative to a conflict.
Kiev and the West have recently been expressing concern over allegedly intensified “aggressive actions” by Russia near Ukraine’s borders. Moscow has repeatedly rebuffed such accusations, stating that it threatens no one and is not going to attack anyone, while statements about “Russian aggression” are used as a pretext to place more NATO military equipment near Russian borders.
